The Solar PV Installation Process

From concept to completion, here at GB Solar we have a unique process that ensures your Solar PV installation goes as smoothly as you’d expect; from our initial exploratory conversation to the final switch being flicked. In this latest post, we’ve outlined the basics of what’s involved in your solar journey.

Your enquiry

We listen. It’s important for us to gather as much information from you as possible to help us find out what your goals are and what you want the system to achieve.

It might sound straightforward, but there is no such thing as a ‘one-size fits all’ solution for Solar PV. Although two homes may look identical, the number of inhabitants, work or shift patterns, lifestyle habits and many other variables can present us with different aspects to consider when looking at how best to save you money or offset your carbon footprint.

The GB Solar Proposal

At GB Solar, it isn’t our aim to ‘sign you up on the day’ or to blind you with pre-arranged pricing to lure you into a Solar PV installation that might not be right for you.

Following our initial conversation with you, we will use the information we’ve gathered to design the best proposal, within your budget and to the specification you expect. We use a revolutionary design software package, Open Solar, to present a detailed proposal that is emailed directly to you. This personalised proposal includes a breakdown of all pricing and component details, system performance illustrations, 30 year predicted generation figures and full ROI calculations.

Following your receipt of our proposal, we will contact you to follow-up with a brief call to satisfy any questions, queries or concerns you may have.

We understand that buying a Solar PV system is a significant investment and you may need time and some reassurances before making your final purchase.

A GB Solar Survey

Following your approval, we’ll conduct a full survey of your property. This involves investigating the feasibility of installing a system.

We’ll briefly inspect different aspects of your property such as roof structure, current electrical configuration and heating system.

Why heating, you might ask? We look into your heating because we can install products that allow us to heat hot water for your property, which will, in turn, reduce your gas bill. The results of the survey also allow us to assess whether an install is both structurally and financially feasible.

Starting your GB Solar journey

When you are ready to go ahead, we are here to help you. We will only move forward with your installation when you’re entirely happy with the proposal and the agreed timescale of works. Your Open Solar account will allow you to view your GB Solar contract, and make your deposit payment with ease, which will automatically be registered with HIES (a consumer protection organisation covering the installation of renewable energy products.) We will complete all DNO connection approvals, if applicable, prior to booking your install date.

Your Solar PV Installation

We will arrange for scaffolding – where required – to be erected, then removed as swiftly as possible following the install.

From start to finish, the installation of a typical domestic Solar PV system often takes just a day, including the coupling of a battery storage system. This will include a walk-through of the system, its basic components and the safety and isolation features. We will also set up your monitoring accounts for the manufacturer portals, ensuring you have remote access at any time to track your systems performance.

Your GB Solar Handover

Following the installation, we will provide you with all the relevant certification, including an MCS and NICEIC certificate, organised nicely in a full owner’s pack. This certification will not only ensure that your system is approved by the industry’s most recognised electrical certification body but is also registered with the MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme); enabling you to claim any future incentives, such as the forthcoming S.E.G. – Smart Export Guarantee (Available from January 1st, 2020).

Aftercare

We have a duty of care to every single customer that extends well beyond the end of your installation. Not only does every single system we install come complete with a two-year parts and labour guarantee, but we are also committed to ensuring your system maintains its promised efficiency and adheres to its stated manufacturer warranty.
