Start reducing your businesses bottom line

For many businesses, the cost of energy is a significant expense that can often go unnoticed. While it may not be a tangible cost like rent or payroll, energy consumption is an invisible cost that can add up quite quickly, especially if you’re not actively monitoring it. As a result, it’s important for businesses to take a closer look at their energy consumption and explore ways to reduce their energy bills.

The cost of energy has been steadily increasing over the years, and this trend is expected to continue. Making a few changes in your day-to-day business operations can help you save a small fortune on your energy bills. For example, investing in energy-efficient lighting, upgrading to more efficient heating and cooling systems, and reducing energy waste can all help to lower your energy consumption and save you money.

Here are 10 tips to help save on your energy bills:

1) Switch to LED bulbs

Have you switched out your old lighting yet? LED’s use up to 80% less electricity than old incandescent and fluorescent lighting, lasts longer and provides a much higher quality of light. Studies have proven that using the right lighting and colour can improve performance, productivity and help create a more harmonious work environment.

2) Keep blinds and curtains open

Natural daylight can not only light our office and factory spaces, sunlight artificially heats a building through refraction in glass. It also helps maintain our bodies circadian rhythm – keeping us alert throughout the day and making us sleepier at night.

3) Replace old appliances

Out with the old, in with the new… We don’t use a typewriter now because we can send emails at the press of a few keys, so why do we retain our old, inefficient appliances? Products like fridges, freezers, machinery and boilers are likely far more efficient now than when you bought them, consider switching out your old appliances for a newer version, they’ll likely pay for themselves in the long run.

4) Switch off unused computers

Switch computer’s OFF overnight – Does your office have ten or more computers operating? One single computer turned off overnight can save £35 per year! Times that by the number of computers you have, you could save £100’s or even £1000’s.

5) Be air-con smart

Air conditioning is expensive! During those milder Spring and Autumn days, consider whether you need the aircon on until the temperatures get uncomfortable. Your aircon shouldn’t be needed until temperatures begin to exceed 23/24 degrees – When you are using it, ensure doors and windows remain closed. Otherwise, you will literally be throwing money out of the window.

6) Boil the right amount

Are you brewing for two? Or ten? Boil what you need, not a full kettle! Most of us enjoy a break to make a brew, but so often we boil much more water than we need. If you’re boiling just for one, just boil the amount of water you need, not only will you get your brew quicker, you’ll not be wasting energy heating up an unnecessary amount of hot water.

7) Switch off unused lights

Your employees don’t pay the bills, so it may not be at the forefront of their minds to ensure your business runs as efficiently as possible. Ensure your workforce is engaged in helping your business play its part in saving the environment and saving energy.

8) Use motion sensors

We all know someone who forgets to turn the lights off, don’t we? Take the hassle out of it using a Motion Sensor switch replacement. They’re a quick, cost-effective and easy solution that ensures your business isn’t burning energy when it doesn’t need to be.

9) Conduct an energy audit
